The Light of the World
John 8:12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, He said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (NIV)
I love this promise of Jesus’ direction in our lives. He tells us we must follow Him, but He does not stop there. He further promises that if we do so “we will never walk in darkness.” He could have easily stopped there but He continues to expound on the benefits of following Him by saying that we “will have the light of life.”
I have noticed in my search through the scriptures over the years, that nothing is left incomplete. It all ties together and has been prepared for us to read, study and grow from. Sometimes we find it confusing when we do not understand a particular application. But we must be patient. God does deliver on His promises to us. He reveals Himself through His Word in areas He wants us to grow. His Word is true and the path before us is lighted with the glory of Himself.
Satan negatively impacts our lives with darkness, but if we allow Christ to be active and move freely about in our life, the darkness will have no place. Christ is the brightest light. He can see and reveal to you what you have hidden away in your heart, which tries to reside in the unconfessed and sinful areas of your life. Christ sees it all. Give it to Him and experience His cleansing power. He always wants what is best for us. Christ never wants to harm us but if there is *unconfessed sin in our lives we block Him from being effective and our ability to serve becomes limited. David experienced this in Psalm 66.
Our fellowship with God becomes affected in a negative way and our lack of trust lessens the impact of how we experience God moving through us reaching the lives of others. God reveals Himself, but we block Him with unconfessed sin in our lives. Sin is like a cloud that keeps us from seeing God through the scriptures. We cannot serve Him on our own. We need His strength, through the Holy Spirit, to do what is right and good in His sight.
The challenge is before us. We need to follow Him, and He will light the way.
Let Him be the light of your life today.
